Shelby Farms Park Conservancy (SFPC) is the nonprofit that manages and cares for Shelby Farms Park and Shelby Farms Greenline in Memphis, TN. SFPC is responsible for daily management, fundraising to meet operational budget needs, setting the vision for the Parks future, and stewarding its natural resources. Position Summary
The Heart of the Park (HOP) Maintenance Technician is the lead maintenance professional for the park’s central zone (Zone 1), responsible for ensuring all facilities, systems, and infrastructure are fully operational, safe, and visitor-ready. This position specializes in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and infrastructure systems, including the park’s geo-thermal and forced main sewage systems, facilities, bollards, lighting, and hardscapes. The HOP Maintenance Technician performs hands-on repairs, oversees preventative maintenance, and coordinates contractor-led work in partnership with the HOP Manager.
This role requires strong technical skill, sound judgment, and the ability to see how maintenance activities connect across departments such as Sales + Events and Development. The Technician must communicate clearly with both internal and external partners and help ensure that maintenance solutions protect the park’s assets, respond to client needs and enhance visitor experience.
Core Responsibilities
Facilities + Systems Maintenance
- Lead maintenance and repairs for HOP facilities, including restrooms, pavilions, visitor amenities, and mechanical systems.
- Troubleshoot and either perform repairs or coordinate repairs for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and sewage systems, including forced main and geo-thermal.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure the reliability and safety of all mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- Oversee preventative maintenance schedules for all systems except landscape and irrigation in HOP.
- Maintain accurate records of service intervals, repairs, and warranties through MaintainX.
Infrastructure + Hardscape Oversight
- Oversee inspections and repairs of infrastructure such as bollards, hardscapes, lighting, signage, gates, and walkways.
- Perform or coordinate minor carpentry, painting, and fixture repairs (doors, windows, sills, trim) in HOP facilities.
- Manage large-scale maintenance projects, such as sewage cleanouts, water level management, and infrastructure rehabilitation.
- Coordinate contractors for specialized work, ensuring standards, schedules, and safety protocols are met.
Preventative Maintenance + Data Management
- Work with the HOP Manager to develop and maintain preventative maintenance plans for all HOP systems and facilities.
- Use MaintainX to track inspections, document findings, and generate reports.
- Analyze maintenance data to identify recurring issues and propose long-term solutions.
- Support the HOP Manager in project planning, system mapping, and budget tracking.
Communication + Coordination
- Communicate clearly with the HOP Manager, Park Ops team, and Sales + Events to coordinate maintenance around scheduled events and rentals.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for maintenance issues affecting HOP venues, tenants, and event partners.
- Notify leadership of emerging issues that could impact visitor experience, safety, park operations or revenue.
- Participate in weekly HOP team meetings and MOD briefings as requested.
Event + Venue Support
- Partner with Sales + Events on operational readiness for indoor and outdoor venues, ensuring systems are fully functional.
- Provide technical support for event add-on services, including power access, plumbing needs, and safety systems.
- Respond quickly to day-of-event maintenance needs in collaboration with Rangers and Sales and Events.
Safety + Emergency Response
- Respond to urgent maintenance calls, equipment failures, and system alerts with professionalism and calm.
- Understand locations and functions of all HOP system controls (e.g., electrical panels, water/gas shutoffs, sewage pumps).
- Support implementation of emergency response plans, asset protection, and after-hours incidents when required.
Client- and Visitor-Focused Approach
- Ensure all work areas are clean, safe, and clearly marked when maintenance is in progress.
- Avoid leaving tools or materials in visitor zones.
- Prioritize repairs that affect the visitor experience or revenue lines and complete work within established timelines.
- Model professionalism and a solution-oriented mindset at all times.
