As part of the regional priority on rights-based and people-centered conservation to achieve equitable conservation outcomes TNC Asia Pacific region is anticipating the launch of a project aimed at empowering women to lead improved NRM and build resilience to the impacts of climate change in the Coral Triangle (Ultimate Outcome). Of the six CT countries, project activities will be implemented on-the-ground in four countries (Indonesia, Papua New Guinea - PNG, Solomon Islands, and the Philippines) with training and participation in learning exchanges in all six CT countries including Malaysia and Timor Leste. The Gender Specialist brings technical expertise and support capacity building of TNC staff in gender equity and women empowerment in conservation, natural resources management and climate adaptation, ensuring integration into all strategies, processes and implementation of priority projects in AP Region.
The position is flexible in terms of location within the TNC Asia Pacific region, in countries where TNC may hire staff, with a strong preference given to the project implementation countries: Papua New Guina, Solomon Islands and Indonesia. There is no sponsorship for relocation and support for immigration and visa. This will be a fixed-term position until September 2028.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reporting to the Project Director, the Gender Specialist will be a key member of the small Regional Project Team. They will support country teams in Papua New Guina, Solomon Islands, Indonesia and the Philippines to ensure that all project activities are implemented in a gender responsive way.
The Specialist leads the development and implementation of the Projects’ gender strategy and plan, including conducting analyses, tracking progress and bottlenecks, evaluate the effectiveness and develop adaptive actions to ensure advancement of gender equity objectives of the project. Theywill identify needs and provide technical assistance and trainings to TNC staff and partners or contractors on gender, women’s empowerment, diversity and inclusion, promoting the rights of women, Indigenous Peoples and local communities and other vulnerable groups in conservation, natural resources management and climate adaptation. The Specialist will ensure best practices in gender responsiveness, advise project teams and partners on gender analyses, design trainings, tools and activities to address these gaps in the project implementation. They look for opportunities to capture learnings, prepare reports and communications content focused on gender. They also serve as contact with the external partners and professional community within the equitable and rights-based natural resources and climate field, to keep abreast of new developments and opportunities that may be useful to the Conservancy and to report on and share the Conservancy’s experiences with others.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of replicable gender and women empowerment strategies for the project.
Advise project teams and partners on women’ empowerment and gender-related aspects of conservation and climate work.
Design, implement and manage project MEL systems that integrate gender, including data collection/management, development of tools and protocols, and supports project teams in implementing the MEL system.
Lead the development and delivery of gender-related trainings, educational materials, and capacity building for TNC staff and partners or contractors.
Manage the contracts of gender-related consultants.
Work with the Safeguards Advisor to ensure that project activities are designed and implemented in a way that avoid creating risks for women and other traditionally marginalized groups, developing and ensuring the effective implementation of risk mitigations.
Work proactively towards implementing organizational and departmental strategic goals, particularly in relation to rights-based, people-centered conservation.
Ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures and external requirements.
May develop and administer budgets, evaluate results, and develop corrective strategies.
May involve domestic and international travel of 20% or more.
What You’ll Bring:
Bachelor’s degree in conservation, political science, gender, social science or related field and at least 6years of related experience, or equivalent combination.
Strong verbal and written command of the English language.
Experience in designing, implementing and directing multiple complex projects and ensuring program accountability.
Communications experience includes preparing and presenting project proposals or related, and developing written communications.
Experience negotiating with other agencies, companies, private parties or related entities.
Experience working with partners and/ or government agencies without violating any restrictions related to conflicts of interest, lobbying former employers, or influencing decision makers.
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of major UN, regional and national conventions and practices relevant for gender equity and women empowerment in conservation, climate and natural resources management in Asia Pacific, especially Coral Triangle countries.
Experience in research, critical analysis and evaluating information from divergent sources and compiling it into cohesive reports.
Experience presenting to and/or communicating with diverse audiences such as internal and external teams, senior leadership, governments, community or business leaders, and or partners.
Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated, particularly experience working on regional / multi-country projects.
Master’s degree in a relevant subject
Critical analytical thinking, ability to develop and drive project ideas and approaches
Deep knowledge of, and fluency in women empowerment and gender-related issues in Asia Pacific region
Experience working with cross-functional teams across multiple organizational levels
Ability to write and speak in another language other than English spoken in the countries of AP Region,highly desirable
Ability to sensitively advise other staff on how to effectively engage with internal and external parties.
Ability to work well in a highly matrixed, decentralized and collaborative organization. Possesses strong interpersonal skills and political savvy. Must be a team player.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet time sensitive deadlines.
