The Regional Environmental Manager is a senior environmental leadership role responsible for ensuring full regulatory compliance and driving continuous environmental performance improvement across multiple manufacturing sites.
This position requires deep technical expertise in environmental regulations, wastewater treatment systems, and air permitting, along with proven experience managing complex environmental programs in regulated industrial environments. The successful candidate will serve as the environmental authority for the region, working closely with plant leadership, regulators, and corporate stakeholders to protect human health, the environment, and the company’s operational integrity.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide technical leadership and oversight for environmental compliance programs across multiple facilities.
- Serve as the regional subject matter expert (SME) for environmental regulations affecting chemical and manufacturing operations.
- Mentor and support site environmental coordinators, plant supervisors, and operations teams to ensure consistent regulatory compliance.
- Act as the primary liaison with EPA, state (e.g., DEC), and local agencies, including inspections, audits, permitting, and enforcement resolution.
- Oversee industrial wastewater treatment systems, ensuring compliance with NPDES/SPDES, pretreatment, and local sewer requirements, and drive water efficiency and pollutant reduction initiatives.
- Manage air permitting and compliance programs.
- Develop and maintain hazardous and non-hazardous waste management programs in compliance with RCRA and state requirements.
- Support environmental emergency planning and spill prevention programs, including SPCC and response training.
- Oversee groundwater remediation systems, environmental sampling, data management, and regulatory reporting.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (required) in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field.
- Minimum 5–7 years of progressive environmental compliance experience in the chemical, manufacturing, or industrial sector.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with wastewater treatment systems and permitting is required.
- Direct experience managing air permitting and air compliance programs is required.
- Strong working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations, including EPA and state agencies (e.g., DEC).
- Proven ability to manage multi-site environmental programs with varying regulatory requirements.
- Experience with ISO 14001, Responsible Care®, or similar environmental management systems.
- Strong technical expertise in environmental regulations, wastewater treatment, and air compliance
- Ability to lead without direct authority and influence site leadership
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable interfacing with regulatory agencies and managing inspections
- Ability to travel regionally up to 30%
The expected salary range for this role is $116,000 - $136,000 USD annually but specific employee compensation may vary depending on factors including experience, education, training, licensure, certification, location and other job-related, non-discriminatory factors permitted by law.
This role is also eligible to earn a short-term incentive bonus and the following benefits: 401(k) plan, medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, paid time off, paid holidays and paid sick leave.
This role is also eligible to earn a bonus and benefits as defined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
