DESCRIPTION:
The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for developing, leading, and managing, a robust and comprehensive environmental, occupational health and safety program at Finlays’ northeast facilities.
This role exercises problem solving techniques and innovative leadership to achieve Finlay’s ‘Zero Harm’ strategies, whilst engaging all company employees to guarantee a high-performance safety culture.
The EHS Specialist will have responsibility for the overall performance at Finlays’ San Antonio sites, to include, monitoring and measuring data relative to key performance metrics. This role must drive performance, consistency, and compliance, to improve our safety culture and achieve ‘World Class’ status. This work will ensure all activities are handled in accordance with Finlay’s mission, business philosophy, ethics, and objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement and sustain programs which directly support Finlays Solutions ‘Zero Harm’ Safety program.
- Maintain all safety records such as training registers and OSHA 300 logs.
- Complete applicable environmental or safety regulatory filings.
- Monitor and measure occupational health and safety data to identify trends and/or areas requiring improvement.
- Manage local Worker’s Compensation claims.
- Prepare insightful and timely reports for Finlays Solutions Health and Safety performance.
- Lead all safety incident investigations, to include near miss situations or major/minor injuries.
- Act as the Management Representative for Finlays Solutions ISO 14001 and 45001 programs.
- Lead the health and safety audit program by scheduling audits, assessing the findings, and provide feedback which is meaningful, objective and value adding to the Senior Leadership Team.
- Maintain the existing PPE programs.
- Provide EHS consultative services when it comes to the design of new or modified equipment, aiding in the risk assessment and mitigation solution activities.
- Develop and maintain an ergonomic improvement program.
- Develop and maintain recycling programs for waste streams.
- Standardize processes and procedures of the Health and Safety Management systems within the region.
- Engage all levels of Finlays Americas teams to ensure high levels of employee engagement and offer support for proposed changes / improvements using effective communication strategies.
- Identify H&S training requirements within the region. Plan a training strategy and deliver it.
- Write and maintain H&S policies and procedures and provide direction and support to operational teams.
- Lead key inspections and site visits to ensure that high standards are in place, setting the standards for peers / management across the business, impacting the Safety culture.
- Take specific responsibility on behalf of Finlays Americas to ensure the Team remains globally compliant regarding the required H&S, Environmental, Facilities and Equipment, Legislative, Regulatory standards.
- Drive operational improvements with Finlays Americas teams to improve Health and Safety Management, cut costs and drive efficiencies.
- Perform other job duties as needed.
- Responsible for consistently maintaining safe quality food products by following good manufacturing practices, allergen controls, food defense, HACCP, SQF, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensuring visitors, contractors and customers are documented on each visit in and out of the facility to maintain good manufacturing practices, allergen controls, food defense/food security and HACCP controls.
- Responsible for immediately reporting all food safety and quality issues to management.
- Responsible for partnering with others, sharing knowledge, skills and information within assigned team and across functional areas.
- Exhibit an understanding of quality standards and the ability to speak to Finlays quality systems.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- OSHA 10-hour General Industry (desirable).
- Certified internal auditor (ISO, SQF, or similar).
- Experienced training and facilitating of both small and large groups – able to deliver content effectively.
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Project Management skills.
- High school diploma required, college degree preferred
- Proficient spoken and written English, bilingual Spanish preferred
- Experience in completing health, safety, or environmental related tasks.
- 5 years’ experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Wet, Humid, and Hot.
- Able to stand, bend, and stretch while working on machine for up to 12 hrs.
- Able to relocate and/or lift, up to 75-pound boxes/bags.
- Moderate noise level.
- Move up and down stairs for up to 12 hr.

- Handle customer complaints in a timely and professional manner so that the customer is put first, always.
- Participate fully in Finlays Solutions programs that drive continuous improvement methodologies.
