We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Consultant, with verification experience to join our team. In this role, you will support our verification services as well as our LCFS and Canada carbon program. You will work collaboratively with our team on various projects.
In this role, you will support PROtect's Environmental, Carbon, and Sustainability clients by identifying risk and assisting in developing layers of protection to mitigate that risk. This position will primarily support large industrial facilities such as refineries, renewable fuel producers, chemical plants, and/or oil & gas facilities.
SUBJECT EXPERTISE
Routine duties of this position will be in support of, but not limited to, the following carbon programs and related modeling analyses for the following renewable fuels:
Carbon Program:
- California Low Carbon Fuel Standard
- Oregon Clean Fuel Standard
- Washington Clean Fuel Program
- Canada Fuel Regulation
- Canada Province Support
- ISCC
- Renewable Fuel Standard
- Renewable Fuels Modeling, including: Ethanol, Biodiesel, Renewable Diesel, Renewable Natural Gas, Hydrogen
- Verification/Certification Services under: American National Standards Institute (ANSI) National Accreditation Board, California Air Resources Board (CARB) Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) Program
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
- Provide emissions rate verification to both SAF and non-SAF clean fuel producers in support of IRS Tax Credits, including but not limited to 45Z, 45Q, and 45V.
- Develop fuel pathway applications to allow customers to participate in low carbon fuel markets such as California, Oregon, Washington, Canada, ISCC, and Voluntary Markets.
- Provide customers with ongoing compliance support for various carbon programs/markets.
- Work with state or federal agencies, including ECCC during application processes.
- Aid with Canada province fuel pathway applications.
- Clearly communicate with team members, customers, and regulatory agencies on carbon projects.
- Develop Carbon Intensity Analysis Reports discussing the details of the carbon models and results as specified by our customer.
- Monitor and manage low-carbon fuel program regulatory requirements.
- Complete Lifecycle Analysis Reports to support carbon applications.
- Manage multiple activities with varying timelines and stakeholder engagement.
- Develop a broad range of technical skills and capabilities to support the Environmental, Carbon, and Sustainability team.
- Build and support relationships with regulatory entities, vendors and clients. Identify and analyze customer needs, develop concepts and proposals, schedule activities and closes contracts.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in environmental, engineering, science, or related field.
Active accreditation under the ANSI National Accreditation Board to conduct validation and verifications in accordance with requirements of ISO 14065, OR as a lead verifier or verifier under the CARB LCFS program is required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- At least 3 years of professional experience conducting carbon intensity modeling using GREET-derived models, OpenLCA, or other renewable fuel models.
- Experience conducting verification for low carbon fuel programs.
- Advanced proficiency in excel with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Experience managing multiple projects while managing budgets and deadlines.
- Ability to apply creative, practical, common sense thinking to develop carbon modeling strategies.
- Awareness of low carbon fuel program regulations, both domestically and in Canada.
- Strong attention to detail.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES & REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
Site visits required - up to 25% travel required or as needed. Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive during adverse conditions across multiple states. May include work over weekends or travel on weekends. May require lifting of up to 25 pounds on occasion.
