Job Summary
The Environmental Specialist 2 is responsible for overseeing land environmental compliance for the company's generation and transmission facilities and infrastructure. This role ensures regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and environmental leadership by working closely with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of environmental regulations, project management expertise, and the ability to drive compliance initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
- Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including:
- Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
- Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA)
- Hazardous Waste, Solid Waste, and PCBs regulations
- Oversee compliance programs related to waste management, profiling, reporting, and hazardous materials handling.
- Conduct environmental audits and assessments to identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions.
- Stay informed of changing environmental regulations and proactively implement necessary adjustments.
Environmental Risk Management & Training
- Assess and mitigate environmental risks associated with company operations.
- Provide training and guidance to employees on environmental best practices and safety protocols.
- Implement environmental leadership initiatives to enhance corporate sustainability efforts.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience/knowledge of land environmental compliance regulations, such as RCRA, CERCLA, Hazardous Waste, Solid Waste, and PCBs.
Technical Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes.
- Proficiency in environmental management software and data analysis tools.
- Project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Soft Skills & Certifications
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders.
- Professional certifications such as:
- Certified Environmental Professional (CEP)
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
- OSHA 40-hour certification (preferred but not required).
