Working under the direction of the Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent for Special Crews, responsible for the supervision and operation of all tree maintenance activities by the assigned unit, which include, but are not limited to: tree maintenance, chemical spraying, and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) activities. Expected to make good decisions independently, but also be able to solicit and accept help if needed or offered. Must be able to maintain control of the assigned area of responsibility, yet be subordinate to the Area Superintendent, accepting and supporting decisions made at levels higher in the chain-of-command.
Will be required to travel and stay out of town up to 80% of the time to meet operational needs.
A Qualified Applicators Certificate (QAC) is required before appointment.
Required to maintain a Class C driver's license. A Class A driver’s license with an N endorsement is desirable.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Tree Maintenance Supervisor, Caltrans Exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
