Summary:
Environmental Educators will teach Second-Grade students and their chaperones about Environmental science topics including watersheds, trees, and renewable energy.
Responsibilities:
Set up stations, lead activities, monitor second graders at all times, and help clean up the materials after the field trips.
The stations feature hands-on learning activities like using a 3-D watershed model and building a sailboat out of recyclables.
The environmental educators will set up educational stations, supervise 10-15 second grade students alongside the chaperones.
Teach hands-on environmental science activities, and clean up stations afterwards.
The educators will teach stations related to watersheds, renewable energy, trees, and being a scientist.
Teaching each station involves sharing background information, explaining what students will be doing, helping them do it (e.g. find trees with certain characteristics, build a model sailboat, etc).
The stations will take place on the main quad and terrace outside the Hall of Science.
Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work:
Part-Time.
10 hours per week.

Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma.
Currently enrolled at American University with some classes related to environmental science or a related field.
Background in environmental science or a related field and experience working with kids.
