Position Summary
Under the Direction of the Manager of Entertainment, the Seasonal Event Ensemble Performer will function as an Ensemble Performer and will appear in and assist with the operation of Entertainment programming in the Atrium, Galleries, and the Plaza. This will primarily be in support of seasonal Special Event Activations such as Haunted Seas, Holidays at Georgia Aquarium and the Glow Nights Summer Nighttime Spectacular. The Seasonal Event Ensemble Performer may be required to learn choregraphed dance or movement sequences, function as a puppeteer or parade balloon pilot, or appear as an atmosphere performer for a particular production. Special Event productions will require the performer to learn and maintain show-readiness for multiple performance tracks /roles during a concentrated and compressed rehearsal process. The performer must be able to sustain performances for long-form presentations over an extended period. They will also provide Production Assistance or technical support for Special Event productions as directed. The performer may also support Georgia Aquarium’s Mascot Program and other Entertainment Activations as needed. The Seasonal Event Ensemble Performer will maintain the artistic direction as set by the creative team and comply with established standards, policies, and procedures required to maintain an engaging, efficient, and safe Guest Experience. Due to the nature of the Mascot / Puppeteer Performing, this position may require the Seasonal Event Ensemble Performer to work in a close-fitting, multi-layered costume or puppet apparatus with an enclosed head piece that may have limited vision. The ambient temperature inside the mascot costume or puppet apparatus will often be warmer than the temperature in the building. Due to the nature of this kind of performance it may require at times exaggerated character movement, choreographed dance sequences, and rapid costume/apparatus changes. The position requires schedule flexibility and open availability which may include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities:
- Appear as an Ensemble Performer in entertainment facilitation in the Atrium, Galleries, and the Plaza at Georgia Aquarium. May serve as an atmosphere/character performer, dancer, or puppeteer.
- All performers will be required to manipulate, steer, wear, perform with, and otherwise operate puppets of varying sizes and build materials.
- All performers will be required to assist with show operations, including, but not limited to pre-setting production elements, assisting with costume/apparatus changes, assisting other performers with their act, and prepping spaces to return to daily operation.
- Must perform for long stretches of time while standing, moving, dancing, and puppeteering.
- Learn multiple show tracks quickly within a short amount of time and be able to cover any track at any time.
- All Performers will be required to work as a mascot or puppeteer performers.
- Occasional appearances may require work occurring at an off-site location.
- Assist with the basic handling, storage, upkeep and maintenance of costumes, props, set pieces, and dressing room spaces, as directed.
- Attend and participate in scheduled rehearsals.
- Comply with established schedules for all facilitations and perform daily duties as directed.
- Provide accurate and thorough information to guests about the Aquarium.
- Assist in keeping a clean, safe work environment.
- Must be able to follow through with operations and coordination with limited supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned/workload necessitates.
Qualifications:
- High-school diploma or
- Previous experience with dance/movement, puppeteering, character performing preferred.
- Previous 2 years of theatre, film, or music performance experience
- Experiences with Theme Parks, Cruise, Ships, Festivals preferred.
- Previous 1 year of customer service experience in a fast paced, high-volume attractions setting preferred.
- Effective problem analysis and resolution skills.
- Ability to be flexible and shift priorities to meet departmental requirements.
