Duties & Responsibilities

1. Job Responsibilities:Market & Project Development

  • Assist the COO in the identification and acquisition of new energy projects (solar PV, wind,
  • BESS, hybrid, etc.) across South Africa and other African markets, including land leasing,
  • government negotiations, and partnership development.
  • Conduct site screening and preliminary feasibility assessments (solar/wind resource, grid
  • connection, land suitability) with technical teams.
  • Monitor local policies, regulations, and market trends to build a pipeline of viable projects.
  • Prepare related documents for the internal approval.

2. Stakeholder Engagement

  •  Liaise with government authorities (energy ministries, utilities, regulators) to secure permits,
  • licenses, and approvals (e.g., grid access, environmental permits).
  •  Manage relationships with local communities, landowners, EPC contractors, and off-takers
  • (utilities/private sector).

3. Project Permitting & Compliance

  •  Oversee all documentation and approvals, including:
  • Project registration, land rights, environmental impact assessments (EIA), grid interconnection
  • agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with local laws and international standards (IFC/World Bank guidelines if
  • applicable).

4. Financial & Investment Analysis

  • Collaborate with finance teams to develop project financial models (IRR, NPV, LCOE) and
  • investment memos.
  • Support fundraising efforts with investors, lenders, and development banks.

5. Contract Negotiation

  • Lead negotiations for PPAs, land leases, EPC contracts, O&M agreements and any other
  • related documents.
  • Work with legal teams to mitigate risks in contractual terms.

6. Cross-functional Coordination

  • Align with engineering, construction, and legal teams to ensure smooth project handoverpost-development.

Desired Experience & Qualification

1. Education:

  •  Bachelor’s degree or higher in Energy, Engineering, Business, or related fields.

2. Experience:

  • 3+ years in renewable energy project development, preferably in Africa (South Africa, Kenya,

Namibia, etc.).

  •  Proven track record in securing permits, land rights, and grid access in African markets.
  •  Existing network with African governments, utilities, or developers is a strong plus.

3. Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of Africa’s energy policies, regulations, and PPA frameworks.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel frequently.

4. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with hybrid projects (solar+storage, wind, bio-mass, gas) .
  • Language: Proficiency in English; . Chinese or French will be considered advantage.
