We are currently recruiting a Legal Assistant to join our Regulatory, Indigenous and Environmental Specialty Group in Calgary. The Legal Assistant will proactively provide legal professionals with a high level of support in an effort to improve practice efficiency, including coordinating client-related activities. This position requires an excellent multi-tasker with strong administrative and communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative and have excellent client service and organizational skills.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Manages time, resources, workflow and deadlines of legal professionals which involves maintaining a filing system for all documents, compiling and organizing materials required for legal professional’s work-in-progress, opening up new files, etc.
- Interacts with clients to schedule appointments and exchange information.
- Performs client account administration which involves ensuring that dockets are submitted, reviewing and editing e-prebills, preparing invoices for review by legal professionals, verifying fees and disbursements, preparing write-offs and addressing client inquiries regarding billing.
- Receives, researches, prepares and follow up on audit inquiries.
- Handles confidential materials and documents.
- Drafts correspondence and memoranda such as affidavits of documents; compiles documents and completes conflict reports.
- Provides clerical and administrative support such as filing, answering the telephone, making travel arrangements, scheduling meetings, transcribing dictations, performing research as required, photocopying and binding materials, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Education and Experience
- The position requires the completion of a Community College Legal Assistant program, certification in the area of Litigation will be an asset.
- A minimum of three years of experience working in a professional legal environment is required and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge and Skills

- knowledge of legal procedures and practices
- oral communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with a number of individuals
- writing skills necessary to draft and proof-read documents and correspondence

We are currently working in a hybrid work arrangement, which includes a requirement to work primarily in the office and flexibility to work remotely up to 2 days per week
