Position Description Summary | The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a one-year sabbatical replacement faculty position in organic chemistry at the rank of Instructor, beginning August 25, 2025. The successful candidate will teach organic chemistry lecture and labs, as well as other chemistry courses as needed by the department. The home campus for this position is CU-Bloomsburg with the expectation of serving a multi-campus University within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
About the Department:The Department of Physical and Environment Sciences features approximately 50 faculty that teach in the areas of biochemistry and chemistry, physics and engineering, and environmental sciences. Our Chemistry programing is approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS), and the Pre-Medicine and Biochemistry tracks are accredited by the American Society of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (ASBMB). The department promotes hands-on laboratory experiences so students are prepared for various post-graduate career trajectories. More information can be found at the department page.
About the College:Physical and Environmental Sciences is one of seven departments in the College of Health, Science, and Technology at Commonwealth University. Duties | 1) Teach and develop courses/laboratories in organic chemistry. 2) Participate in service activities for the program, department, college, university, and the community as available. 3) Faculty are encouraged to engage in other professional development opportunities, including research, as time and resources are available. |
Qualifying Experience and Education (Minimum/Preferred) |
Minimum Qualifications: 1) Ph.D., or ABD, in Chemistry with expertise in Organic Chemistry. 2) Experience teaching organic chemistry lectures and/or labs. 3) Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. 4) Demonstrated ability to work with various student learner populations. |

Background Clearances | Offers of employment are conditional, pending successful completion of the background clearances mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy 2014-01-A: Protection of Minors. In order to qualify for a provisional appointment, the Applicant Acknowledgement Consent Form, Provisional Hire Form, Pennsylvania State Police and Justifacts portion of the clearance process must be successfully completed prior to your start date. The remaining PA Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI Clearance must be successfully completed and returned as soon as possible within the first 90 days of employment. |
