Description
The Environmental Coordinator supports TriMet’s agency-wide Environmental Services program by performing project-level work to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations. This includes regulations governing stormwater, wastewater, chemical management, hazardous and industrial waste, aboveground and underground storage tanks, spill response, air emissions, environmental cleanup, and contaminated media management.
This role requires being onsite five (5) days per week.
Reliable in-person attendance is an essential function of all positions. Essential Functions
- Provide support and day-to-day management of various environmental programs at TriMet’s bus and rail maintenance garages, facilities maintenance shops, park and ride lots, right of way alignments, capital improvement project sites, and new property acquisitions.
- Work with other TriMet maintenance, operations, and capital projects staff, as well as consultants and contractors. Participate in project technical meetings and provide environmental technical assistance as needed.
- Conduct facility audits and inspections, and work with onsite personnel to correct issues. Ensure that environmental policies and standard operating procedures are implemented consistently at all TriMet facilities.
- Coordinate the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of our environmental infrastructure (including stormwater, wastewater, and aboveground/underground storage tank systems).
- Manage, profile, and arrange for final disposal of chemical and hazardous waste streams in accordance with RCRA. Maintain accurate records and prepare regulatory reports.
- Assist with the procurement and administration of environmental consultant and contractor services. Monitor vendor activities to assure contractual compliance and track costs.
- Prepare and deliver environmental trainings and presentations to various TriMet staff.
- Provide technical assistance during spills and other environmental emergencies. TriMet operations occur 24-7, 7 days a week, and coordination of activities may occur outside of normal work hours.
Position Requirements
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental management, engineering, geology or chemistry is required.
Two (2) years of experience working with and applying environmental regulations in an industrial setting are required.
The following licenses/certificates are required within thirty (30) days of hire:
-HAZWOPER Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120)
-Hazardous Materials Transportation Certificate (USDOT 49 CFR 672)
Possession of current/valid Class "C" license issued by Oregon or Washington; ability to pass a driving record check meeting TriMet driving record standards.
Or any equivalent combination of experience and training.*
The amount of credit a candidate receives for prior years of experience is based on the relevancy of that experience to the required or preferred prerequisites of the job description. Experience is prorated based on hours worked. LRHR assigns and validates the "credited experience".

Salary Range
Minimum: $70,311.00
Maximum: $105,465.00
Salary offers will be determined by a candidate’s education, training and relevant experience. Any final offer of employment will fall within the range stated above. For transparency, we choose to list the full available grade range, however, TriMet’s salary administration process will ultimately determine the final salary offered. Selection Process
