ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Establish, maintain and promote a constant culture of safety through training and monitoring employee practices, surveying and eliminating potential risks.
- Responsible for administering the company policies and procedures relating to employee safety including employee safety meetings, internal compliance, and accident investigations.
- Maintain safety files, records and procedures consistent with existing and new OSHA, DOT, state and other agency mandated programs as they apply to the company.
- Advises management on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions and involves all levels of management and supervisors in creating an effective safe working environment and culture.
- Plans, prepares and implements training for employees in work site safety practices including company- wide weekly safety meetings and ongoing training specific to certain tasks and departments.
- Performs safety surveys and inspections, prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
- Conducts post-accident and near miss investigations and prepares reports identifying possible accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and senior management.
- Documents monthly safety related activities and events and maintains reporting necessary to assure compliance with company and outside agency requirements
- Other duties as assigned or needed
EXPERIENCE:
- Must have a Commercial Motor Vehicle license (CDL A or B)
- Must have a minimum of 5 years safety administration experience in an environment working with commercial motor vehicles as well as a knowledge of OSHA and DOT requirements
- Experience in administering return to work programs, coordinating worker comp claims and reducing severity and frequency of injuries
- Experience in Solid Waste Industry preferred
- Experience in reading and interpreting tech manuals
- Must have strong knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point)
- Ability to multi task and good organization skills
EDUCATION:
- High school Diploma or higher
