The Guest Engagement Volunteer Assistant supports our mission by providing administrative and programmatic support to our Guest Experience Volunteer team. Our Guest Experience Volunteer Team supports programs including Info Carts, Lorikeet Adventure, Stingray Cove, Exhibit Interpretation, Summer Safari Camps, Nature Play, and more! This position works collaboratively with our Guest Engagement Programs team and is dedicated to supporting DZCA Volunteers during the summer season.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Seasonal Logistics and Administrative Support
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Guest Experience Volunteers during the season.
- Manage and adjust volunteer schedules as needed.
- Maintain program materials and provide campus-wide support in various volunteer locations.
- Keep detailed records and conduct programmatic observations.
- Collaborate with the Guest Engagement Programs and Adult Volunteer Teams to ensure volunteer success.
Communication & Relationship Building
- Communicate clearly with guests, staff, and volunteers in person and electronically.
- Build and maintain professional relationships to foster a welcoming and united volunteer community.
- Support a cohesive and engaging guest experience through volunteer interactions.
Programmatic Support & Mentorship
- Act as a resource for mentoring and supporting Guest Experience Volunteers in their roles.
- Assist with training, reflective practice, and skill development.
- Maintain programmatic supplies, resources, and materials.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Represent DZCA professionally and positively by exemplifying our institutional core values.
- Contribute to the larger development of the volunteer program and provide feedback on the season and suggestions for changes moving forward.
- This position will interact with many different internal partners, all DZCA Volunteers, and zoo guests.
Technical/Professional Requirements & Qualifications
- Bilingual in Spanish/English (preferred).
- Ability to create welcoming and inclusive experiences for people of all backgrounds and abilities.
- Experience in group management and proactive guest engagement in informal settings.
- Background in supporting informal programs and volunteers (preferred).
- Familiarity with Volgistics or other volunteer management software (preferred).
- Knowledge of informal teaching strategies to inspire learning in children, families, and communities.
- Ability to communicate effectively in varied environments, including busy and high-energy spaces.
- Ability to collaborate with volunteers of diverse ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
- Passion for animals, nature, and outdoor engagement with children.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable in team and independent settings.
- Proactive, positive, and flexible attitude with a willingness to learn.
Position Conditions
Compensation
The hourly rate for this position is $19.00.
