Plant Manager (GCC Certified) - 3 Wind Farms
Introduction
Our client is a leading global renewable energy company that develops and manages clean energy projects, focusing on sustainability and innovation across various energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydroelectric power.
They are seeking a Wind Farm Plant Manager (GMR 2.1 Certified) to oversee operations and maintenance at a wind farm cluster in the Eastern Cape.
The ideal candidate will ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations while managing contractors, ensuring compliance, and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
The successful incumbent will have free housing and site allowance along with a competitive basic package.
Duties & Responsibilities
Operations & Maintenance Management
- Oversee O&M activities across Impofu East, West, and North Wind Farms.
- Ensure compliance with GMR 2.1 regulations and South African Grid Code.
- Monitor and control maintenance schedules per OEM specifications.
- Manage SCADA, CMS, SAP, SAS, JIRA, and CKS for performance monitoring.
- Troubleshoot faults and failures to minimize downtime.
- Oversee MV/HV switching operations for maintenance and inspections.
Compliance, Safety & Environmental Management
- Enforce HSEQ policies and ensure adherence to ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001.
- Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and emergency drills.
- Ensure statutory compliance of plant equipment.
Stakeholder & Contractor Management
- Liaise with Eskom, local municipalities, landowners, and community consortiums.
- Manage contracts with service providers and subcontractors.
- Oversee local job creation initiatives and preferential expenditures.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and mentor plant personnel, ensuring 24/7 operational support.
- Provide training and skills development programs.
Financial & Reporting Responsibilities
- Manage the O&M budget, ensuring cost-efficient operations.
- Track and report on plant KPIs, availability, production, and safety.
- Utilize data analytics for predictive maintenance and improvements.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- B.Eng/M.Eng or related Degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
- GMR 2.1 Certified (Government Certificate of Competency).
- 5+ years of experience in industrial power plant operations.
- Strong knowledge of MV/HV equipment, grid code compliance, and SCADA systems.
- Proficiency in SAP, SAS, CKS, JIRA, and CMS.
- Experience in contractor management, safety enforcement, and performance monitoring.
- Valid South African driver’s license and willingness to travel to remote locations.
