The client is a renewable energy company dedicated to developing and financing sustainable power projects in emerging markets. They specialize in bridging the transition from traditional fossil fuel-based power generation to renewable energy solutions, supporting countries in their shift toward cleaner, more sustainable energy sources.

Project:
The project is a renewable energy initiative in Morocco, focused on conducting a feasibility study for an integrated power project that combines coal and renewable energy operations. A key component of the project involves engaging government and utility stakeholders. The primary objective for the first three months is to secure a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with either the power plant utility or the state-owned energy utility, a critical step in advancing the initiative. 

The client seeks a Project Lead/Project Manager to drive the feasibility study, with responsibilities including financial modelling, document preparation, and legal coordination. The role is initially scoped for three months, with the potential for extension based on project progress.

Role and Responsibilities

Role: Project Manager – Renewable Energy Initiative 

Direct Report: TBD

Candidates Required: 1

Key Deliverables: 
  • Project Plan:  
    • Develop and draft a comprehensive project plan, outlining key milestones, timelines, and deliverables to guide project execution and stakeholder alignment.  
  • Financial Model Management:  
    • Run, update, and refine the project’s financial model as needed. 
    • Rerun model scenarios and extract key figures for presentations and discussions. 
  • Document Preparation & Stakeholder Engagement:  
    • Develop clear, concise proposal documents (e.g., 5–15-page memos summarizing key findings and strategies). 
    • Draft initial feasibility study structure and determine which elements should be prioritized in the first three months. 
    • Work with legal advisors to ensure the contractual framework and term sheet are well-structured. 
    • Facilitate stakeholder discussions, leveraging model insights to persuade key decision-makers to advance the project. 
  • Vendor & Contractor Coordination:  
    • Oversee external vendors and consultants, ensuring timely delivery of relevant market research or technical studies. 
    • Review and refine external reports to ensure accuracy and clarity before final submission. 

Requirements

Experience Required: 
  • Strong understanding of power sector dynamics, including coal and/or renewable energy operations. 
  • Prior experience in project development, particularly within capital projects or energy infrastructure. 
  • Ability to engage with government and utility stakeholders, navigating regulatory processes. 
  • Project management experience is preferred, but the hiring manager is open to candidates with strong learning potential who can be coached. 

Technical Requirements:
  • Experience in financial modelling, with the ability to update, enhance, and analyze project models. 
  • Understanding of energy project permitting, legal considerations, and financial structuring. 
  • Ability to integrate technical, legal, and financial insights into project planning. 
  • Experience with contractual frameworks and term sheet preparation. 
  • Familiarity with managing external vendors and consultants for market research and due diligence.

Terms of agreement:
Required start date:  | Beginning of May
Contracting period:   | 3 months initially, with the potential for extension based on securing the MOU.
