JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of the position is to perform moderately heavy physical labor requiring the use of common hand tools and power equipment involving any or all of the following duties. MAJOR DUTIES: Grounds maintenance includes mowing; trimming; removal of leaves, limbs, trash or other debris; pruning trees and shrubs; trail repairs; maintaining flower and planting beds; etc. Operation and maintenance of lawn tractors; operation and maintenance of small equipment and hand tools such as lawn mowers, and weed trimmers. Assist other maintenance staff with minor carpentry, painting, electrical and plumbing repairs. Custodial work - sweeps, vacuums, scrubs, polishes floors; cleans sinks, toilets, fixtures and a variety of other surfaces; dusts exhibits, furniture and other surfaces; collects trash; cleans trails, bridges, sidewalks, and parking lots (including snow/ice removal). Moderate physical effort is required to move and control equipment by pushing, pulling, bending, stooping. Incumbent occasionally carries, sets up and works from ladders; frequently lifts and moves objects weighing over 50 pounds. Considerable standing, walking, bending, stretching and working in awkward positions is required. Incumbent operates heavy power mowers on grades or slopes. Work is indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions including temperatures up to 100 degrees in summer with periods of high humidity and below freezing in winter.
