JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of the work is custodial and janitorial work such as sweeping, scrubbing and waxing floors, washing windows and walls, dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures. Work is done by hand or with powered equipment. In order to accomplish the custodial/janitorial assignments the incumbent must on a regular and recurring basis operate light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sites located on the park. MAJOR DUTIES: Use of commercial/industrial janitorial materials, tools, and equipment to clean carpeting, walls, windowsills, floors, and all surface areas to include exhibit and artifact coverings, security surfaces/barriers, in the museum, galleries, and exhibit rooms. Using prescribed methods (Tung oil treated dust mops for wood floors and Watco--tung oil for furniture, banisters, and doors), equipment, and materials. Use heavy duty powered equipment, such as floor scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, burnishes, hydraulic lifts, scaffolding, and high-pressure hot water cleaners for carpets (Steamex). Clean restroom fixtures consisting of toilet bowls, urinals, lavatories and service sinks with operating valves, faucets, drains, and exposed pipes; electric hand dryers; dispensers for soap, towels, toilet tissue, and sanitary napkins, refuse receptacles; and toilet partitions including their doors. Clean tram load zones and tram capsules. An appointment to this position is restricted by law (5 U.S.C. 3310) to Veterans who are preference eligible if such applicants are available. All Custodial certificates must list the preference eligible first, then a certificate of non-preference eligible may be issued.
