Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Senior Transportation Engineer (Electrical), incumbent is in charge of construction contract electrical installations. Incumbent is responsible for documenting projects, field investigations and inspections, and other related work. Incumbent performs various technical office task and field tasks of high difficulty relating to transportation construction and engineering work.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Engineer Electrical Exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Electrical in-person written hurdle exam, DO NOT TAKE the TE Electrical online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Working Conditions

Position(s) is located at 952 Goodwin Dr. Ripon, CA 95366. 

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

Job will have exposure to chemicals, lab conditions, equipment, machinery, heat, cold, dust, gas, fumes, outdoor conditions, indoor conditions, humidity, and high decibels of noise. Hard hat and safety vest or approved safety shirt must be worn at all times in the field, no exceptions. While at the Construction office employees will normally work in a climate-controlled office under artificial light. However due to periodic problems with the heating and air conditioning, the building temperature may fluctuate. Workload may subject employee to night work, frequent changes of shift, frequent changes of work hours and workdays, and geographic transfer. Travel is required. Vacations may be restricted during peak times. Overtime may be required.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimun salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Special Requirements

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.

  • Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Electrical) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, a PE license is not required.
  • A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required. Failure to include and complete the SOQ may result in disqualification for interview.
The SOQ should be double-spaced, size 12 Arial font, and no longer than two (2) pages in length. Each numbered statement below should be addressed individually, and responses should be numbered to match each of the qualifications listed below.
  1. Provide examples that demonstrate your experience in preparing studies and reports. Examples can include work related to electrical, electronics and computer projects. Experience in wireless or fiber optic communication.
  2. Provide examples that demonstrate your experience in MicroStation, AutoCADD, Civil 3D, MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Schedule, etc.) and other industry standard software skills. Nation Electrical Code, computer programming, electrical electronics, or power control circuits.
  3. Provide examples that demonstrate your experience in performing field reconnaissance/ investigations, gathering, and analyzing field data.
  4. Provide examples that demonstrate your experience in making presentations and writing technical reports.
  5. Provide examples that demonstrate your experience/effort inside and outside normal work/school experiences such as professional certifications, participation in committees, mentoring efforts, leading process improvements, facilitating training, participation in professional societies, community groups, volunteer work, etc.
  6. Provide examples that demonstrate your experience in working on team projects.
  7. Provide examples that demonstrate your experience in critical thinking, innovation, and problem-solving skills.
