We are looking for a talented, innovative, and well-connected energy policy professional with experience navigating energy regulation, market rules, and grid deployment to support our energy policy work at EU level; in Spain, where we are growing our AWS cloud infrastructure; and in other European countries where we operate AWS Cloud Regions. The successful candidate will have a deep policy understanding of the energy industry, and will have experience of EU energy policymaking, the European energy regulatory environment and of Spanish energy policy and regulation. They will be familiar with market processes and transmission deployment in EU countries. The individual will support our energy policy work at EU level, across multiple topics; and will own and drive our energy policy strategy in Spain. They will also support energy-related policy initiatives in other countries as required. Overall, they will develop energy policy positions and advocacy strategy, coordinate the team’s advocacy on selected topics and implement our energy policy strategy in partnership with a wider, cross-functional, team. The successful candidate must be inquisitive, enthusiastic about energy policy, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.
Key job responsibilities
- Develop and execute advocacy strategies that support energy and infrastructure development in Spain and in other countries, as required.
- Develop and execute on energy policy priorities at EU level, including undertaking direct advocacy and working with external organisations including trade associations and NGOs, as required.
- Deepen relationships with external stakeholders (including governments, regulators and energy policymakers) and experts to identify opportunities and risks arising from policy and regulatory developments.
-Facilitate meetings between AWS and key stakeholders, including senior government officials, regulators, industry associations and alliance partners to promote AWS advocacy positions.
- Work closely with internal business partners to craft and contribute to policy submissions and engage in consultations with relevant regulators.
- Contribute to energy policy advocacy efforts within AWS including coordinating and developing public policy collateral such as policy position papers and talking points.
- Provide expert advice to internal business partners and assist them in developing their respective business strategies.

- Relevant public policy experience on issues pertaining to the electricity system and infrastructure policy. Experience working on energy regulation is essential.
- Knowledge of the electricity industry in Europe and experience working within and around the industry is necessary.
- Strong English language skills – both written and verbal.
- Native Spanish or German speaker
- Ability to travel – primarily within Europe - as needed.
