DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Environmental Education Specialist, your role will encompass the comprehensive management of environmental education, recreational activities, and interpretive programs at Cowans Gap State Park Complex. You will take charge of the strategic planning, development, organization, and execution of educational initiatives that focus on both environmental and historical themes, catering to a diverse range of visitor groups. The programs you design may include guided nature walks, multimedia presentations, informative tours, outdoor recreational activities, and hands-on field learning experiences, all aligned with state-established themes that highlight natural history, significant cultural events, and pressing environmental issues.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal Full-time employment without benefits.
  • Shift hours and days vary due to operational need, with a 30-minute lunch
  • Weekends, holidays and all shifts as needed at 37.5 hours per week
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in environmental education, education, the natural sciences, social sciences, or parks and recreation; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.


Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Legal Requirements: 

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
