Position Summary:
The School of Environmental, Coastal, and Ocean Sustainability (ECOS), a partnership between the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science (COS) and Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (HBOI), at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida is seeking an Assistant Research Professor. Established in 2023, ECOS serves as a collaborative hub for FAU programs focused on environmental research and sustainability. It currently oversees two graduate programs (Environmental Science; Marine Science & Oceanography) and two multi-disciplinary centers (Center for Environmental Studies; Center for Urban and Environmental Solutions). The assistant research professor will be affiliated with the Center for Urban and Environmental Solutions.
Responsibilities:
The Assistant Research Professor reports to the school’s director. The Assistant Research Professor leads or assists with a research program supported by grants and endowment funds. The Assistant Research Professor has a supervisory role with the director’s supervision.
Research Role
- Leads and participates in research and publications.
- Identifies and leads efforts to secure funding via grant writing and applications, focusing on external grants.
Administrative and Supervisory Role
- Identifies and assists in securing external and internal research funding, as well as grant writing and coordination of internal review board (IRB) submissions.
- Assists with the coordination and execution of the funded research budget(s).
- Leads training of personnel involved in specific research projects and programs.
- Oversees research assistants by tracking hours, coordinating projects and grant support.
Instructional Role
- The Assistant Research Professor may be involved in teaching on an occasional or voluntary basis.
