DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role involves overseeing the development, execution, coordination, and assessment of environmental education (EE) initiatives, as specified in the Pennsylvania Environmental Education Act and related frameworks. Key responsibilities include supervising a team of professionals, managing the operations of the Pennsylvania Center for Environmental Education, and evaluating EE activities conducted beyond traditional classroom settings. Additionally, the position entails creating and implementing EE programs aimed at engaging citizens, as well as administering EE grants. Collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) is also a crucial aspect of this work, ensuring alignment and support for educational efforts in the environmental sector.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. 
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as an Environmental Education Program Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of experience as an Environmental Education Specialist Supervisor or an Environmental Education Regional Program Coordinator (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of professional experience in the field of environmental education and interpretation, and a bachelor's degree in environmental education, education, the natural sciences, social sciences, or parks and recreation; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
     

Other Requirements:
