Environmental Education Specialist – Camp Kingfisher
Position Overview
The Environmental Education Specialist leads the development and implementation of the hands-on
environmental education program at Camp Kingfisher. The Environmental Education Specialist is
responsible for developing content, training counselors, and managing schedule development.
All staff at Camp Kingfisher are hired to:
• lead campers as a positive, caring role model
• provide campers with fun, positive outdoor learning experiences
• help campers grow and learn through challenges
Essential Functions
• Create curriculum, Science Exploration Activities, elective skill times, and programming that is
both age appropriate and congruent with each weekly theme
• Develop and supervise all aspects of group schedules including checking counselor schedules for
conflicts and content, and coordinating with camp administrative staff and CNC staff
• Assist with orientation and on-going training of camp counselors in the area of Environmental
Education
• Maintain high standards of health, cleanliness, and safety in all activities, most specifically
in regard to wildlife, camp program supplies, shared resources, and libraries
• Run weekly scheduled planning meetings for counselors to develop schedules and ongoing training
in the area of EE
• Support program areas as requested and needed
• Complete additional duties as assigned
• Attend weekly staff & specialist meetings
• Contribute to verbal/written evaluations and communication as requested
• Keep track of and recording hours worked, requesting director’s approval for any additional
hours prior to work
Physical Demands and Work Environment
• Willingness to work outdoors during the summer season
• Must be able to lift over 20 pounds
• Valid driver’s license or state issued ID
Skills
• Experience (and passion for) teaching or working with children and adults
• Extensive relational and managerial skills with children and adults of all ages
• 3 years of experience in planning and leading environmental education, natural history,
education, childcare, or camps.
• Environmental education knowledge base and interpretation skills
• Wildlife handling experience preferred, especially with CNC
• Current tetanus shot or willingness to obtain one
• Current First Aid/CPR certification, course provided
