DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Corrections Environmental Engineering Consultant is a role designated for a Professional Engineer within the Department of Corrections, specifically in the Bureau of Operations. This position integrates responsibilities as an engineering, operational, and regulatory consultant, with a strong focus on activities related to utilities and environmental concerns. Typically, this role does not involve direct oversight of personnel or systems, except in exceptional circumstances where intervention is required to ensure a safe and secure environment.

Additionally, this position is an integral part of the Department’s Continuity of Government Relocation Team. Should there be a need to temporarily move essential functions from the Central Office to a field location due to an emergency, the individual in this role will actively engage with the Relocation Team and carry out all tasks as assigned by the team leader.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 2 days per week upon successful completion of training period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Mechanicsburg. 
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Two years as an Environmental Engineer or an Air Quality Engineer (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or 
  • Five years of professional engineering experience in environmental protection or in environmental project development, design and/or construction.


Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.  

 

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
