Position Summary
This position is an entry level position that will report to the Fleet Scientific Services, Standards Lab Supervisor. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Standards Lab Supervisor and Senior Calibration Technicians and be responsible for supporting the production and technical aspects of calibrating portable Measuring & Test Equipment (M&TE). The M&TE Tech will be responsible for the accuracy and quality of their work, timely completion of assignments, compliance with the requirements of the Standards Lab Quality Program documents and applicable Nuclear Generation Division and Duke Energy Directives and Policies. The successful candidate will be expected to cross train in multiple parameters and continue to gain skills and proficiency with a goal of advancing to a position (M&TE Tech II) requiring significantly less supervision of day-to-day activities within a 2-year period.
Responsibilities
- Hands on calibration of a wide variety of portable M&TE including the preparation of calibration test reports
- Maintenance and revisions to Calibration Procedures for portable M&TE
- Utilization of M&TE tracking and process management database
- Preparation of portable M&TE for vendor calibration and repairs including the review of vendor documents associated with vendor calibration and repairs
- Maintenance of Lab spaces and Lab M&TE standards
- Perform Out of Tolerance (OOT) evaluations for Lab standards found OOT
Basic/Required Qualifications
- 1 to 3 years hands-on experience calibrating measuring and test equipment in a production laboratory environment, or an associate degree (or higher) in a relevant technical field with demonstrated hands-on mechanical and electronics skills and aptitude
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's degree in electrical and Electronics Engineering
- In addition to desired degree, 3 years related work experience
Additional Desired Qualifications
- Specific, documented training or qualifications related to the calibration of measuring and test equipment - e.g., U.S. military PMEL, American Quality Society Certified Calibration Technician, Manufacturer’s training
- Familiarity with Uncertainty analysis
- METCAL procedure writing
- Experience with COMPASS software
- Indysoft Database management
Working Conditions
- Primary working conditions will be in laboratory and office environments
- Travel- primarily between plants with occasional overnight stays and temporary plant assignments
- Infrequent weekend work, some call out possible
- Occasional exposure to power plant environment which includes high noise areas, heat,climbing, exposure to dirt and dust.
