The Work You Will Do:
This is an entry-level independent technical environmental position in the Division of Air Resource Management (DARM) that reports directly to the Environmental Administrator of the Field Operations Section in the Office of Air Monitoring (OAM). This position operates and maintains ambient air monitoring sites and collects legally defensible data in the Forgotten Coast Territory area. It may also assist in the operation, setup, and repair of air monitoring equipment in other areas of the state. This position is expected to offer new ideas for doing business, evaluate issues, and make recommendations to improve operational efficiency. This position requires being a team player and displaying a cooperative attitude.

The Division of Air Resource Management is charged with regulation of Florida’s air resources, including air quality monitoring, permitting and ensuring compliance of emission sources. Through a variety of services for our customers – the public and industry – the division regulates the state of Florida’s air resource fairly, consistently, and efficiently, while implementing state, federal, and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requirements and enabling the economic development of the state. The Division provides these services through its Director’s Office, Office of Business Planning, Office of Air Monitoring, Permit Review Section, and Compliance Assurance Section.

Pay:
Salary Range Annually $40,331 - $42,331 (Commensurate based on experience)
Your Specific Responsibilities:
Field Duties: Makes routine visits to the sites, as needed, to include: maintenance of the site and instrument logs and preventive maintenance schedules; performs sample filter checking/changing; calibrates the instruments as required; performs routine quality control checks on the instruments as required; performs specified preventive maintenance operations; performs minor repairs to air monitoring sites, performs siting reviews, and equipment; and informs supervisor of any issues that might result in data loss or completeness issues. Notifies supervisor of any unusual issues.
Data Collection: Polls the sites daily and reviews the report displaying hourly data, previous night’s automatic calibration report and power failure report to confirm satisfactory operation. Takes corrective action if any problems are detected in the daily polling. Reviews polled data to ensure the sites were polled and data are stored locally. Tracks questionable or lost data.
Data Review: Participate in performance and systems audits, conduct software/hardware enhancement analysis, and prepare monthly and quarterly data reports, as needed.
Site Maintenance: Maintains and checks the site heating/cooling system operation to include cleaning and replacing of filters, maintain grounds around the air monitoring shelter, keeps the shelter interior clean, and maintains and cleans the sample manifolds.
Equipment Maintenance Assistance: Installs, calibrates, inspects, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, modifies, and maintains new and existing air monitoring equipment to meet vendor specifications and state/federal performance standards. Documents, and maintains records of work performed to confirm that systems will produce high-quality, legally defensible monitoring data. Create/update checklists and standard operating practices for equipment inspection, testing, repair, maintenance, and calibration procedures to meet manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements.
Performs other related duties as required by the Section Administrator or designee.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the physical and natural sciences
Knowledge of the basic principles of electronics and electricity and application to air monitoring instrumentation
Knowledge of standard electronic and electrical test equipment
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of analog and digital electronic instruments and systems
Knowledge of the procedures for troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating and maintaining electronic and electro-mechanical equipment
Knowledge of schematic drawings
Skilled in the use and care of tools and equipment used to repair, service and calibrate instruments and systems
Skilled in use of personal computers
Skilled in performing basic math calculations
Skilled in analyzing and interpreting technical data
Skilled in problem solving
Skilled in preparing technical reports and documentation
Skilled in interpreting and using electronic circuit diagrams and mechanical blueprints
Skilled in diagnosing malfunctions in instruments and systems
Skilled in testing and the use of test devices to determine options for the repair, maintenance and calibration of instruments and systems
Skilled in troubleshooting and problem-solving instrument malfunctions
Skilled in planning, organizing and coordinating work assignments to manage multiple priorities
Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures
Ability to repair, maintain and calibrate instruments and instrument systems
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people having a wide variety of technical and non-technical backgrounds
Ability to work independently as well as contribute to a team
Ability to be an effective, conscientious and respectful team member

Required or Preferred Qualifications:
Valid Driver License
Required to travel on state business
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in natural sciences or engineering; or any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related experience, as described above, for a total of four years.
This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP-422 (Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility).
