Our mission
At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The VX4, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), 'zero emissions' aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.
We won't realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to 'redefine' aerospace best practices.
We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals of having the VX4 in service by 2030.
What to expect
As a Senior Environmental Effects Engineer, you will join our Vehicle Management System's team based in Bristol and help us achieve our mission of pioneering electric aviation. You will specialize in High-Intensity Radiated Fields, Electromagnetic Compatibility, and Lightning protection to ensure our aircraft meets the highest safety and certification standards.
A typical day could involve reviewing certification requirements, supporting airframe design decisions related to electromagnetic shielding, or conducting tests for electromagnetic compatibility. Your ability to navigate complex certification processes while providing expert guidance on design solutions will be key to your success in this role.
What you'll do
You will lead the electromagnetic environmental effects compliance of our aircraft systems, supporting certification processes, and providing design and testing expertise.
You will review certification requirements, derive company-specific requirements, develop verification plans, and prepare and maintain the Electromagnetic Environmental Effects Certification Plan.
You will provide guidance on airframe shielding and cable routing, and support the design of direct effects mitigation measures with attention to detail and proactive planning.
You will specify requirements according to the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics standards, including High-Intensity Radiated Fields test levels and direct effects test requirements.
You will review and support test plans and reports, conduct aircraft electromagnetic compatibility testing, and perform integrated system tests for High-Intensity Radiated Fields and lightning.
You will develop High-Intensity Radiated Fields and Lightning Certification Plans, perform data analysis, and prepare certification reports.
You will support Advanced Testing Laboratory verification tests and assess Portable Electronic Device tolerance.
What you'll bring
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
Experience in electromagnetic environmental effects engineering for commercial aerospace projects.
In-depth knowledge of commercial aerospace electromagnetic environmental effects qualification standards and procedures.
Proven experience in electromagnetic environmental effects design, safety impact, and risk assessment.
Strong background in electromagnetic compatibility, High-Intensity Radiated Fields, lightning protection, and electromagnetic pulse
