Job DescriptionPrincipal Responsibilities: 1. Oversees the advancement and growth of the program. Gives direction and leadership supporting the philosophy, mission, strategy, and annual goals and objectives. Assumes primary accountability for disseminating and publishing all program information to create public awareness and support of the program. 2. Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans. 3. Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program. Develops the metrics to identify and measure the success of the program. Responsible for measurements of grant success and related evaluation. 4. Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications. Develops and manages the program’s operating budget. 5. Develops the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resource and administrative functions of the program, including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs. 6. Investigates, identifies, implements, and oversees the maintenance of systems to gather, track, and report information to support the initiatives of the program. Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives. 7. Initiates, designs, and manages the compilation of program communications; identifying outreach potential, and promoting philanthropic and collaborative support of the program. Contributes to the development and assists in the management of content on the program’s website and monitors all changes and additions to the editorial content. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree in a related field and four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Focus:The Sustainability Program Manager supports the Office of Sustainability as it guides the university in sustainability thought leadership, transparent accounting of progress, and building a culture of sustainability on campus and beyond. This role helps support priorities to drive data-driven decision making on high-impact initiatives and helps provide effective communications and engagement to enable action across the Yale community. Specific responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
1. Creation and execution of strategies to increase staff involvement of sustainability initiatives, ensuring alignment with overall university sustainability goals. 2. Development and deployment of an ongoing sustainability-focused staff engagement initiative with clearly outlined objectives, such as a Sustainability Leaders program. 3. Development and implementation of sustainability action plans or action planning toolkits for departments across Yale, with the objective of providing guidance and support to staff for integrating sustainability into their daily operations. 4. Development and implementation of sustainable transportation programs to increase use of sustainable modes of transit (for employee commuting and business travel), including offering support and resources for staff transitioning to sustainable transportation options. 5. Communicating about staff engagement programs with broad range of stakeholders through presentations, electronic communications, and other pathways. Foster a culture of sustainability across staff through regular updates and success stories. 6. Reviewing findings of bi-annual Transportation Survey and determine appropriate programming or communications opportunities to pursue for staff engagement. 7. Maintaining comprehensive records of program activities and metrics, and preparing regular reports on program progress, challenges, and outcomes to Office of Sustainability team. 8. Staying informed about best practices, trends, and innovations in sustainability engagement and sustainable transportation. 9. Playing an active role on and collaborating with the Office of Sustainability team to coordinate efforts and maximize impact. 10. Supporting cross-departmental projects and initiatives related to sustainability.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:Master’s degree in a related field and five years of related experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:Proven experience in working with the principles and practice of sustainability and demonstrated understanding of how material flows intersect across multiple disciplines and operational systems. Demonstrated strategic thinking and proven ability to execute high-level deliverables for sustainability stakeholders and university leadership.
Required Skill/Ability 2:Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including report writing, data visualizations, and presentations. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of staff stakeholders. Significant working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel. Expertise in Transportation Demand Management systems preferred.
Required Skill/Ability 3:Demonstrated understanding of university operations or equivalent. Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Experience leading behavior change efforts, campaign management, or equivalent.
