General Description / Primary Purpose
The Coordinator Environmental Health & Safety, under the direction of an Assistant Director or above, assists in the design, development and implementation of departmental processes and/or programs. Recommends policies and procedures to ensure effective coordination of departmental programs.
Essential Duties

Job Function
Responsible for a variety of technical, administrative and data management functions relating to occupational safety, general lab safety, biological safety, radiation safety, environmental health and risk management.

Conducts lab and shop safety inspections and fume hood performance evaluations to include documenting results and following up on corrective measures with appropriate faculty and staff.
Conducts accident, incident and near miss investigations to include root cause analysis and future preventative measures.
Escorts the State Fire Marshal during annual campus building inspections to include reporting deficiencies to appropriate department heads and status of corrections by the required completion date.
Develops and delivers safety training sessions on various topics to students, faculty and staff.
Assists with the tracking and reporting requirements of the university municipal storm water permit program.
This position is designated as a Tier 1 respondent for designated campus emergencies and events. In the event of a declared campus emergency, the position incumbent will make every effort to return to campus to commence evaluation and recovery operations.

Marginal Functions
Assists the Director and Asst. Director in the development and implementation of department’s goals and objectives. Serves on committees as assigned. Provides responses and advice during emergencies under the direction of the University’s Incident Commander.
Required Qualifications

A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization; or a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and two years of experience directly related to the job functions.

This position has been designated as a CSA because it involves significant responsibility for student and campus activities and/or responsibility for campus security. As such, any person in this position must report to the University Police Department a crime or an incident that might be a crime that he/she becomes aware of. This position has a reporting requirement because the University believes that your responsibility for students, campus activities and/or campus security will make you someone members of the University community will see as an authority figure and someone to whom they can seek help. A CSA is not expected to investigate or determine whether a criminal incident actually took place. A CSAs responsibility is a duty to report. All positions designated as CSAs are required to complete an online or in-person training session.
