The Seasonal Environmental Education Assistant will support programs that engage imaginations, hearts, and minds to share BPCA’s message of environmental stewardship. Candidate will assist Nature & Science Program Manager in preparing and leading nature programs for children, families, and school groups in Battery Park City. Programs include birding, nature exploration, gardening and fishing programs.
Sample Schedule: M, 9-5:30p; T, 9a-5:30p; Th, 9a-1p, F, 9-1pm Occasional evening or weekends
Responsibilities:
- Actively engage with school aged children in outdoor settings with high energy and enthusiasm, delivering quality nature education that is fun, inclusive, and engaging.
- Support programs for school groups, liaise with educators to provide information and logistics on school trips.
- Collaborate with Manager of Nature & Science Programs on new programs and curriculum, update existing programs as needed. Assist in other program requirements as needed.
- Work in accordance with all BPCA policies and procedures regarding uniforms, punctuality, time management and overall communication with upper management.
- Submit reports upon program completion, maintain Parks Programming equipment and facilities.
- Provide information to park visitors about all Parks Programming offerings, horticulture and maintenance practices as well as general BPCA history and overall philosophy.
Education and Experience:
The ideal candidate is interested in nature and the outdoors, comfortable working in unpredictable weather or environmental conditions, and able to use or learn to use gear and materials for specific programs. Previous experience working with mixed-age groups in classroom, cultural institutions, or informal settings is highly preferred. Candidates should be comfortable leading and supporting nature programs. Physical Requirements:
- Willing to work in all outdoor weather conditions
- Ability to lift and carry 35+ lbs. preferred
- Valid driver’s license preferred
