Job Purpose
Role purpose:
To be the dedicated Sustainability Manager across a number of Construction projects in our Construction North business. The role will be based between site and the ISG regional offices. The position is full time and the successful candidate will also be required to assist the with the implementation of Group and Business Unit sustainability strategies and winning future projects.
Key Accountabilities:
Liaise with the project site teams and supply chain on site and ensure that ISG, Client and Stakeholder sustainability objectives are met within required timeframes.
Develop, cultivate and maintain a culture whereby project teams self-deliver requirements with strategic support from the sustainability team.
Deliver internal training to project teams and trade contractors where appropriate.
Liaise with clients and professional teams via meetings and producing project social value and environmental reports.
Supporting Project Managers and Framework Managers to maintain strong relationships with particular clients, local authorities and frameworks and representing the business within those forums
Division-wide strategy:
Develop the ISG management systems to include industry best practice and ISG innovations
Engage with the ISG Supply Chain and Procurement teams to drive continuous improvement against ISG objectives and client requirements
Develop communication tools, (e.g. guidance and training materials, project newsletters, intranet articles etc.) to inform ISG personnel and stakeholders about projects or initiatives
Capture ISG best practice and produce case studies to share information and improve performance
Assist in developing environmental & social value KPI measuring and recording techniques
Assist in devising and running community engagement programmes across the business and on individual projects
Communicate sustainability issues and performance to site teams and senior management
Report centrally on a monthly basis on project environmental and social value performance
Contribute to winning work when required e.g. PQQs, tenders, interviews
Facilitate internal/external environmental audits (e.g.ISO14001)
Support the Sustainability, Public sector Frameworks & Operations Teams with implementation of initiatives and innovative ideas
Skills & experience:
Strong communication skills
Good interpersonal skills
Ability to deal confidently with colleagues, subcontractors and external consultants
Ability to work independently and use initiative
Ability to work as part of a team
A commitment to identify, develop, direct and implement key objectives
Organisation skills and workload prioritising
Experience and understanding of sustainability issues in construction
Health & Safety awareness
Qualifications:
Environmental / Sustainability qualification desired (Degree, Masters, industry qualifications etc.)
Either qualifications in, or strong knowledge of environmental assessment models desired (BREEAM, LEED, Ska, etc).
