Naples Zoo Veterinary Internship
The Naples Zoo Veterinary Internship is a full-time, 1-year position for veterinarians seeking a career in zoological medicine. The intern will participate in all aspects of veterinary care at Naples Zoo with a strong emphasis on preventative health for approximately 200 animals. The intern will join a team of one Staff Veterinarian and two Certified Veterinary Technicians and will work closely with Staff Veterinarian initially with increasing independence awarded as the internship progresses.
Intern duties include but are not limited to conducting preventative health and emergency examinations, performing and interpreting in-house diagnostic tests, running and monitoring anesthesia, performing elective and emergency surgeries, managing cases, and writing medical records. This position also aids staff in the daily husbandry and treatment of quarantine and hospitalized patients. Naples Zoo collaborates with FWC and USGS for wildlife rehabilitation cases and conservation research projects, so the intern will participate in these cases as they arise. Additionally, this position will assist with mentoring student externs and staff. The intern is required to generate at least one publication for peer review and is encouraged to present at scientific meetings.
This position requires some after-hours, special events, and weekend on-call time. The intern will also be a member of the Emergency Response Team as a darter.

Salary
$50,000-$55,000/year

Qualifications
Minimum 1 year of experience, rotating or large animal internship preferred
Must possess DVM or equivalent veterinary medical degree
Must obtain FL veterinary license within 90 days of hire
Possess USDA Category II Accreditation
