Business Developer – Carbon Finance
Job Description
Develop and support the execution of innovative financing solutions for Rabobank’s Wholesale and Rural banking clients active in the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM), enabling key strategic pillars Rabobank’s Sustainability and Innovation strategy.
You and your job
As “Business Developer – Carbon Trading & Finance”, you will lead the development of financing solutions for both Wholesale and Rural clients active in the (Voluntary) Carbon Market, and you will drive the execution of newly originated transactions in this space. Also, you will act as a connector between multiple stakeholders, both internally and externally – often combining contrasting perspectives. You will therefore be responsible for driving engagement with these stakeholders while developing a strategy for addressing their requirements.
Internal: support realization of VCM as a new asset class for lending structures,
External: supportlending propositions within Wholesale contexton VCM opportunities,
Originate new financing opportunities in the VCM, building a pipeline of transactions,
Create in/external networks and collaborations among diverse stakeholders with potential contradictory needs.
Combine experience and knowledge from core banking products with voluntary carbon market (VCM) insights to create new products that help further develop the VCM,
Use concepts for new products to drive the internal process with Compliance, Legal & Risk stakeholders to further develop Carbon Finance propositions –ultimately leading to for example a BARC process for Carbon Finance (e.g. structured memo, leading CLR dialogue and incorporate associated feedback),
Originate financing opportunities in the VCM, to ultimately support the structuring of Carbon Finance products in close collaboration with existing business lines and Compliance, Legal & Risk.

The26 people in Strategy &Origination teamsupport the development and realization of key strategic pillars of the W&R innovation department in areas of risk and capital solutions, sustainability-led banking solutions as well as strategy & knowledge development.
- At least 2+ years experience working in a banking or other financial services industry,
- In-depth knowledge of Rabobank core banking products (e.g., Core Lending, VCF, Markets) and ability to structure new financial solutions independently is a must,
- Hands-on commercial experience in executing Wholesale transactions is a must,
- Proven experience in business model development, preferably in core banking/finance with knowledge in agriculture,
- Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills,
- Strong negotiation skills in a complex, multi-stakeholder landscape to align business interests of all partners AND clients within a short timeframe,
- Passion for innovation and a forward-thinking mindset,
- Experience or a strong interest in the Voluntary Carbon Market,
- Ability to be agile and work effectively in a dynamic, fast-changing environment, where flexibility and adaptability are essential.
