Job Description Summary | The School of Health Sciences at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, invites qualified persons with a passion for Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to apply for two full time tenure-track position at the level of Associate or Assistant Professor within our department of Public and Environmental Wellness, rank and salary dependent upon qualifications. The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) faculty offers undergraduate (Bachelor of Science in EHS) and graduate (Master of Safety Science Management) programs, both ABET-accredited, within the PEW department. In “pursuing society’s big health challenges,” the Public and Environmental Wellness (PEW) department provides an outstanding educational and research environment to create impact, both for students pursuing careers and graduate study, and for professionals within public, industrial, and scientific communities. Our EHS programs focus on translating knowledge and theory to ensure best practices, striving to identify, evaluate and eliminate or control hazards, which expose people, property or the environment to danger or harm. We offer outstanding physical laboratories well-equipped for industrial hygiene, environmental testing, industrial and robotics safety, fire suppression, ergonomics and occupational biomechanics, and other pursuits. There are numerous opportunities to partner. We enjoy collegial relationships with engineering, computer science, environmental and behavioral science colleagues across campus, and are supported by an exemplary Industrial Advisory Board offering myriad links to industry. We are located in Oakland county at the heart of Automation Alley within the greater Detroit region that specializes in automotive and transportation research, design, and manufacturing. The areas of expertise and specialization sought include industrial hygiene, industrial and robotics safety, electrical systems, construction safety, safety systems management, EHS program leadership and development, within the broader context of public health and wellness. The desired candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to professional ethics in pursuit of experimental, translational, and/or community-based research pursuits. Attainment of the CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or other professional designation or recognition is desired (e.g. CIH, CHMM). The successful candidate will have teaching strengths in one or more of the above fields, and will value the use of diverse teaching methodologies (e.g., online, service-learning, multimodal instruction). To be considered, candidates must demonstrate experience with and a commitment to diversity and inclusion. Candidates with experience and interest in continuous program improvement and accreditation, and leadership in academia, community engagement, and further program development, are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to initiate and maintain a successful program of research, scholarship, service, and community engagement. |
Minimum Qualifications | Minimum requirements are a terminal academic degree (eg. PhD, DSc) in environmental health and safety, occupational health, public health or related health sciences, engineering, applied or behavioral sciences field. Persons who are ABD, planning to complete their doctoral degree by August 15, 2019 are also eligible to apply. |
