How will I help?
The Sustainable Finance team within Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB) is dedicated to driving positive environmental, social, and governance outcomes through innovative financial solutions. We are seeking a Senior Associate to play a crucial role in developing tailored sustainable finance solutions, guiding clients through the evolving landscape of sustainable finance.
As a Senior Associate, Sustainable Finance, you will assist in originating, structuring, and performing sustainable finance transactions for corporate and institutional clients. You will manage risk and information systems related to Sustainable Finance and enhance Westpac's external positioning on Sustainable Finance, ESG, and Sustainability.
Reporting to the Head of Sustainable Finance your key responsibilities will include:
- Market Understanding: Analyse sustainable finance market data, including opportunities, risks, and products
- Customer Partnership: Support sustainable finance solutions by:
- Conducting sustainability and sustainable finance research and due diligence
- Assisting in deal structuring and execution
- Assessing transaction eligibility against market standards
- Data Management: Maintain accurate customer and transaction data
- Risk Management: Manage sustainable finance risks and improve processes
- Team Contribution: Cultivate a positive team culture and support a diverse workplace

You’ll be set up for success in your transition to the role. As part of the WIB Australian-based Sustainable Finance team, you’ll collaborate in person in our Kent Street office to re-group and connect with the Relationship Management, Debt Products and ESG teams.
Additionally, whatever shape your family takes, we’ll offer generous paid and unpaid parental leave for your nominated primary and support carers. What do I need?
As a Senior Associate, you will need a deep passion for environmental or social issues, coupled with an awareness of sustainable finance instruments. Prior experience in this field is advantageous. We are looking for a self-motivated team player who demonstrates strong initiative, drive, and high customer service values. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are crucial, as is the ability to build rapport with customers and internal stakeholders.
Further advantageous skills:
- Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills, with a keen attention to detail
- Pro-active in managing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated teammate, demonstrating strong initiative, drive, and high customer service values
- Strong oral and written communication skills to support high quality internal and external presentations to stakeholders
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience in banking, financial services or similar advantageous
