ENGINEERING INTERN
JOB SUMMARY:
The Engineering Intern will support various projects across the organization, focusing on improving business processes, analyzing financial and business data, and supporting initiatives to enhance the use of computer-based applications. They will work closely with internal teams to assist in understanding the company’s operations and contribute to the development and implementation of improvements. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for a student or early-career individual to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic environment, contributing to meaningful projects that impact the organization’s efficiency and business performance.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in studying company functions to improve computer-based business applications, contributing to the cost-effective use of money, materials, equipment, and people.
- Collaborate with team members to understand the business environment and apply financial knowledge to enhance business solutions.
- Participate in initiatives designed to analyze the company’s revenues and costs, staffing levels, cost allocations, product trends, and development expenses.
- Analyze financial and business data, identify problem areas, and present findings with recommended next steps for action.
- Act as a liaison between various company divisions or departments and the Information Technology Department to ensure smooth communication and collaboration.
- Model and analyze business process flows to identify areas for improvement.
- Assist in implementing SAP standard content where possible to meet business requirements, while suggesting enhancements or customizations as needed.
- Proactively communicate potential data problems, suggest solutions, and provide updates on progress to team members and stakeholders.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND SKILLS:
- B.S. Degree in Industrial Engineering or related manufacturing experience with a degree in Accounting or Information Technology.
- 0-2 years of previous experience in the above disciplines; internships or project experience in manufacturing or business process improvement preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office, MS Access, and familiarity with SAP; programming skills a plus.
- Must be proactive, personable, and flexible, with a strong desire to learn and grow professionally through on-going education and development.
- Ability to think critically and communicate ideas logically and effectively.
- Demonstrates a commitment to applying technical and statistical methods to provide original and insightful advice and support for division-wide continuous improvement projects.
- Strong sense of integrity, with respect and value for individual team members’ unique talents, skills, and contributions.
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a project team environment.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to work a minimum of 8 hours per day on a regular basis.
- Requires additional hours of work as required per workload of position and department.
- Requires prolonged periods of sitting.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Uses office equipment such as copier, and fax machines and telephones.
- Requires prolonged periods of monitoring computer screens and displays.
- Utilizes a variety of hand positions to repetitively manipulate keyboard and mouse.
- Position requires occasional, prolonged periods of standing and walking distances of up to 2 miles in a manufacturing facility.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Time is divided between an indoor office environment and the manufacturing area of the facility.
- The office environment is typically temperature controlled and clean, with normal air contaminants, such as dust, typically found in an office environment.
- The manufacturing environment has regular exposure to loud and prolonged noise.
- Regular exposure to hot temperatures of 95º F to 110º F in the summer due to the combination of the actual outside temperature and heat from the processes inside the facility. Employees are also exposed to cold temperatures, which is dependent on the actual outside temperature.
- While in the manufacturing area, employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include noise/hearing protection, safety glasses with side shields and steel toed work shoes.
