Under the general supervision of the Director of Campus Safety, the Environmental Health and Safety Manager (EHSM) is a member of a team of campus safety specialists and is responsible for providing leadership and management in complying with State and Federally mandated OSHA and other safety regulations for Park University.
Position Accountabilities
- Provide leadership and management of a comprehensive campus occupational health and safety program.
- Responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive training program and detailed training records to meet safety compliance regulations that will serve all levels of the organization including administration, management, supervisors, employees, and students.
- Provide employees with leadership, management, direction, and technical support pertaining to state and federal life safety, occupational safety, and health regulations/standards ensuring compliance, employee health and safety, reducing workers’ compensations risk, and minimizing property loss. Perform building inspections on an annual basis as a prevention/analysis of trends opportunity.
- Partner with Human Resources in evaluating employee injury and illness data, work practices and work areas to identify trends and provide information to management and supervisors so causes are targeted thereby preventing and reducing occupational injury and illness occurrences.
- Assist University Management with Developing, directing, implementing, and evaluating university pollution prevention programs, waste reduction programs, and recycling of those products that fall under RCRA insuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Position Requirements:
- BS/BA degree in a science or engineering field such as, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene or related field required.
- Three years of experience in an EHS position preferred
- Knowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA, DNR, and NFPA regulations preferred
- Experience with hazardous waste codes and manifest requirements preferred
- Experience preparing and presenting EHS trainings, recordkeeping and reporting preferred
- Strong computer and organizational skills required
- Current HAZWOPER/RCRA/DOT training preferred
- OSHA certification preferred
- Experience in a higher education environment is preferred
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable
- The ability to demonstrate good judgment in enforcing university regulations, policies, and practices related to environmental health and safety compliance. Must maintain confidentiality in all campus safety matters
- The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- High degree of tact and diplomacy dealing with the university community under a variety of difficult situations
- Sensitivity toward the cultural diversity of the campus community
- Park University requires consent and successful completion of a background screening. Full disclosure of all felony and/or misdemeanor violations is required. Any convictions will be considered on a case-by-case basis
Physical Requirements
- Physically fit to withstand the challenges of extensive walking and climbing and descending numerous interior and external stairs and campus grounds including multi-level building facilities, commercial underground tunnel system and all adjoining Park University owned land. Must have the ability to walk for extended periods, climb stairs and ladders, see, hear, smell, feel and taste, reach upward, move heavy objects
- Must be able to operate a University motor vehicle
