Our mission
At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The VX4, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), ‘zero emissions’ aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.
We won’t realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to ‘redefine’ aerospace best practices.
We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals of having the VX4 in service by 2030.
What to expect
As the Advanced Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a crucial part in driving the battery development and production assembly equipment.
This role will serve as the lead for manufacturing engineering to ensure design for manufacturing is embedded into the design for battery assembly.
What you'll do
Identifying potential assembly issues and risks, analysing product designs to identify potential problems during assembly, such as difficult part access, complex alignments, and the need for specialised tools or fixtures.
Inputting design modifications, based on your analysis of the design to simplify assembly, reduce the number of parts, and improve the overall manufacturability of the product.
Develop assembly processes and procedures, working closely with production teams to develop efficient assembly processes, including selecting appropriate tools, fixtures, and equipment, and defining the sequence of assembly operations.
Optimising designs for cost-effectiveness by producing assembly costs for the battery pack, considering factors such as labour, materials, and tooling.
Implementing and monitoring assembly processes into development and production, and oversee the implementation of the assembly processes ensuring that they are followed correctly, and that the product meets quality standards.
What you'll bring
Be a team player and great communicator at all levels of the organisation.
A career background in aerospace or automotive manufacturing engineering or advanced manufacturing would be particularly advantageous, together with an interest in green technology and/or aviation.
Degree or suitable experience in a relevant engineering discipline.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams, external suppliers, and stakeholders.
