Position Summary
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and executing Plug Power’s large scale green hydrogen plants / large capital projects. As Senior Project Manager, you’ll also be partnering with cross-functional disciplines to evaluate conceptual investment opportunities, launch them using the company’s capital approval process, and delivering capital projects within the performance goals of the organization.
Additionally, the Senior Project Manager will maintain and support development of projects schedules to ensure activities are carried out in accordance with established specifications, schedules, and budgets. The successful candidate will coordinate with multiple cross-functional departments to efficiently allocate resources, manage risks, develop attainable schedules, and clarify requirements as needed.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Accountable for project cost and schedule controls, project reporting, and forecasting. Manage control of project budget and schedule to meet organizational goals
- Familiarity with project delivery contracting schemes including EPC
- Support development of cost-effective contracting strategies
- Drive third-party engineering service providers and construction contractors to meet project milestone
- Familiarity with project benchmarking and gate assessment processes
- Identify critical path activities, key deliverables, key risks and mitigations, relationships, and constraints for projects to allow schedule and resource predictability.
- Analyze and manage risk on projects
- Gather information and develop a thorough understanding of the project
- Maintain project leadership from feasibility through execution and turnover to operations
- Independently anticipates potential schedule delays and initiate plans for alternative actions as needed; able to rearrange competing priorities to ensure all deadlines are met
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Update senior management on project status and progress on a regular basis.
- Ability to travel as needed to carry out duties of the position

Education and Experience
- BS or MS degree in engineering: mechanical, electrical or other applicable field of study
- A minimum of Seven (7) years working experience in large scale industrial project-based functions. The ideal candidate possesses a background in project management in the hydrogen, chemical industry, or oil & gas sector with full exposure to basic engineering/FEED, engineering, procurement, production, construction, installation, and commissioning.
- Demonstrated success in stage-gate processes for capital projects
- Strong working knowledge and experience interfacing with procurement, fabricators and construction personnel, and EPC contractors
- Proven track record in developing project budget, schedule, and risk matrix.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively. Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail.
- Must be driven and self-motivated with excellent follow-through.
- Computer and software skills: MS Office, MS Project, Primavera and other project control tools.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) preferred but not required.
