Overview
Reporting to the Director of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS), the EHS Specialist is generally responsible for implementing, coordinating, and providing training for assigned environmental, safety, and health programs. Additionally, the EHS Specialist evaluates Physical Environment conditions, processes, and equipment within Riverside Health System (RHS) facilities to determine risks of injury, occupational disease, and damage to property and equipment; in addition to developing measures for the control and reduction of such risks and limiting financial loss. This position utilizes effective communication techniques to prepare and conduct briefings or training programs, lead group conferences, and write reports and other correspondence.
What you will do
- Designs, implements, and promotes EHS policies and programs. Identifies opportunities to continuously improve operations by reviewing current policies / procedures and revising based on regulatory, accreditation, or best practice guidelines.
- Provides technical and administrative coordination for RHS operational programs involving OSHA/VOSH regulations, Hazardous Materials, Hazardous Waste, and other general EHS compliance activities.
- Primary coordinator for the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) software system (MSDSOnline) to maintain data integrity within the system and provide administrative support for division, facility, and department leaders.
- Coordinates or delivers technical EHS training to identified RHS organizations and team members. Conducts training needs assessments, and follows through to establish training requirements for Divisions, Facilities, Departments, and Job Specialties.
- Conducts periodic safety and environmental compliance audits as directed. Issues status reports from audits and performs follow up for corrective actions.
- Builds trusting collaborative relationships with leaders and team members regarding EHS issues. Provides technical advice and guidance on related matters. Responds effectively through timely follow up regarding requests and concerns.
- Participates in assigned committee meetings and provides input / feedback in regard to EHS concerns. Recommends and participates in supply utilization changes that support cost containment.
- Demonstrates ability to prioritize and accomplish assignments with accuracy and timeliness (meeting work schedules, work assignments completed by deadlines, received minimal customer complaints). Ability to respond with flexibility to changes and adapts to varying work assignments.Completes problem solving cycle from problem identification to problem resolution so as to maximize opportunity or minimize problem.
Qualifications
Education
- Associates Degree, Related Field (Required)
- Bachelors Degree, Occupational Safety/Health/Industrial Hygiene/Environmental Science or Management (Preferred)
Experience
- 3-4 years Safety or Environmental Practice experience (Required)
- 2 years Healthcare operations experience (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
- Occupational Hygiene & Safety Technician (OHST) (Preferred)
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) (Preferred)
- Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) (Preferred)
- Valid Drivers License Required
