The Position
We’re seeking an intern interested in working in the environmental consulting field as an engineer, geologist, or scientist. In this role, you’ll have a variety of opportunities to support project teams and clients, depending on your interest and our project needs. You’ll work closely with Floyd|Snider staff to support clients and internal projects. Your list of tasks may include:
- Supporting the field implementation of geological investigations and site assessments to evaluate environmental risks and potential impacts;
- Performing and supporting fieldwork, including air, soil, sediment, water sampling, and other site characterization activities;
- Coordinating with analytical laboratories, vendors, and subcontractors;
- Completing field reports and assisting with data management;
- Conducting focused technical, regulatory, and historical research tasks; and
- Attending weekly Operations and monthly staff meetings, as well as internal committee and technical interdisciplinary discussion groups as available and interested.
Success in this role means being self-motivated to gain knowledge and experience working with environmental professionals working toward technical excellence.
Position Details
This is a full-time, non-exempt, temporary position. The internship is for a period of between eight to ten weeks, ideally beginning in mid-June and ending in mid-August. Interns will earn $30 per hour and work between 32 – 40 hours per week. Paid holidays and PTO are included, and PTO will be pro-rated based on an accrual of .0769 hours for every hour worked. We also offer a $100 weekly transportation stipend, and a $200 allowance to cover any necessary personal protective equipment.
Interns are expected to be on site 4 – 5 days per week, typically working from 9 am – 5 pm, depending on project needs. Project work may include periodic travel, including travel outside of Seattle, including work on evenings and weekends. Project work may create opportunities for overtime work with overtime pay.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following qualifications:
- Enrolled in an undergraduate bachelor’s degree program in geology, earth science, environmental science, civil or environmental engineering, or an applicable scientific discipline
- Once hired, an ability to complete trainings and certifications provided by Floyd|Snider and required for completion of job tasks, including 40-hour HAZWOPER and CPR certification
- Undergo routine, standard Medical Monitoring as required by field work
- Ability to lift 30 lbs and push or pull 50 lbs
- Ability to use fine motor skills
- Ability for significant walking, standing, and bending during field work
- Valid driver’s license
- Authorization to work in the United States
These skills and experiences are valued but not required:
- Field work experience (including through independent study, field camp, etc)
- Exposure to or interest in learning about applicable regulations, including MTCA, CERCLA, SMS, and others as applicable
- Ability to proactively involve team members and take initiative to fill gaps in project work
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks with support from professional staff
