This role will be based in Wuhan, China.
The Birmingham Institute of Fashion and Creative Art (BIFCA) based in Wuhan, China, is a collaboration between Wuhan Textile University and Birmingham City University. It is one of a handful of such partnerships. Students successfully completing their programmes at BIFCA are able to gain a dual award from both BCU and WTU. With a series of innovative, creative, technologically driven and professionally oriented programmes BIFCA represents the new era of quality-oriented, collaborative TNE (Transnational Education), responsive to the needs of all stakeholders. Students are able to choose between studying their whole programme in China or studying part in China and completing their programme at BCU after their second year of study.
BIFCA offers three programmes of study; Digital Media Technology, Landscape Architecture and Visual Communication. BIFCA also provides English Language programmes to support students.
As the BIFCA programme has become established, its teaching commitment is expanding, and we are seeking lecturers across the aforementioned areas to contribute to its continuing development. The positions offer a unique opportunity to live and work in a popular part of China on a 2-year fixed term contract.
As a Senior Lecturer in Landscape Architecture, you will be responsible for teaching delivery of one of the cohorts. You will maintain excellent administrative oversight of the programme, which may include the role of Course Director. You will be responsible for liaising with and reporting on student performance to the team at BCU, including attendance at exam boards and other committees.
We will look to you to ensure an excellent student experience through the use of relevant and inspiring learning, teaching, and assessment methods. You will also provide support and mentoring to individual students via our personal tutor system. It will also be critical to prepare students who choose the 2+2 route for a successful transition for studying in the UK.
The candidate must have an academic and professional background in Landscape Architecture and/or Urban Design to at least a degree level but preferably to Masters level. Previous teaching experience is highly desirable and industry experience is also welcomed. You should have excellent design and communication skills, strong leadership, management and organisational skills, as well as be able to contribute to another area of the curriculum such as history and theory, construction, skills building, or professional studies.
· Qualifications in either Landscape Architecture or Urban Design or closely aligned sustainable design degree ideally at Masters level (essential)
· Hold a PhD in a design or related discipline (desirable)
· Have published or presented their writing and research in the public domain (desirable)
· Have experience of teaching and assessing student work at undergraduate level (essential)
· At least two years’ relevant teaching experience (essential)
· Excellent and demonstrable design and communication skills (essential)
· Collaborative and team working skills (essential)
· Climate literacy and knowledge of sustainable design (essential).
· Ability to contribute to other areas of the curriculum (essential).
· An understanding of the nature of contemporary practice is highly desirable.
· Capability to contribute to other areas such as technical studies, history, theory and cultural contexts, and/or digital representation would also be welcomed.
· Experience with IELTS materials and testing procedures (desirable)
· A recognised English Language Teaching Qualification (E.g.: Cambridge CELTA / Trinity) (desirable)
· Experience working with Chinese / East Asian students and/or experience working within multicultural office environment (desirable)
· Some knowledge of Mandarin Chinese would be advantageous, but is not essential
