- Support in identifying main risks related to hybridization and EMS and propose mitigation measure for implementation phase
Implementation and Asset management:
- After FC, the Project Engineer typically moves through with the project ensuring the risks are properly managed and the design assumptions are implemented as per specification, planned and cost:
- Detail design interrogation
- Ensuring the design is executed in accordance with the contracts in place, with the project specifications and in compliance with construction good practices, local rules and standards.
- Review of documentations arising from contractors and other project stakeholders.
- Review all design, drawings, calculations, datasheets, procedure and documentation for the project provided under each contracts as per contractor’s document release schedule.
- Managing and reviewing BESS and hybrid installation and commissioning activities. Including HPPOC and VPPOC commissioning and tuning.
- Management and reviewing of BESS and hybrid performance and testing (FAT, SAT)
- Management of interfaces between contractors related to EMS implementation
- Closely follow and maintain the risk register on BESS and EMS related topics
- Supporting the implementation teams on construction related topics
- Adhering to EDFs project management framework and policy, as well as strict adherence to Health and Safety and Environmental policies.
- Developing lessons learnt and return on experience.
- Managing the cybersecurity of the project with the support of the EDR Renewables IT team.
Project Development:
- During project development phases the Project Engineer will support the Study and Design Engineers on key topics:
- Conducting and reporting on site visits particularly in later stages of the projects to assist in value engineering process
- Conducting technical due diligence on prospective project acquisitions and external technical reports
- Providing strategic input on development strategies
- Assist in design assumptions for permitting and review cost inputs
- Contribute to continuous improvement of methods and tools to support hybrid project development
General:
- Besides BESS specific tasks, the Hybrid Project Engineer will:
- Contribute towards EDF centre of excellence for storage, via knowledge base development and solid experience for BESS and all subsystems of various technologies.
- May be required to provide support for the Wind and PV work streams where needed, including in contract management, LCOE calculations, forecasting and ancillary services topics.
- This is a relatively new role within the team and it is expected to grow and adjust to the rapidly changing landscape of hybrid renewable projects in the region.
- The scope also includes working with and potentially supporting the Paris team or other subsidiaries on BESS and hybrid projects.
- Within specific projects, the Hybrid Project Engineer could be expected to, from time to time, assume various roles in the coordination of project bids in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, across various technologies including wind, solar and storage.
