JOB SUMMARY: This incumbent serves as the Superintendent of Ninety Six National Historic Site with responsibility for the preservation, interpretation, maintenance, administration, and the safety and well-being of staff, volunteers, and visitors. This is a temporary promotion not to exceed 1 year, and can be extended up to 5 years. This temporary promotion may be made permanent without further competition. MAJOR DUTIES: Supervisory/managerial duties Financial and property resource management Natural and cultural resource management and stewardship Leadership and organizational vision for park operation and visitor experience Civic engagement and public affairs Area Information Ninety Six National Historic Site is located two miles south of the present-day town of Ninety Six in South Carolina, population 2,076 and approximately 9 miles from Greenwood, South Carolina, population 22,500. Greenwood has medical facilities, public and private schools K-12 as well as multiple colleges and universities with a 50-mile radius. The area is served by the Greenwood County Airport. Ninety-Six National Historic Park was an important colonial backcountry trading village with was besieged in 1781 by Patriot troops led by Nathanael Greene during the Revolutionary War. The approximately 1,000-acre site contains earthwork embankments of a 1781 fortification, remains of two historic villages, a colonial plantation complex, and many prehistoric sites. The park unit was established in 1976. The park receives approximately 100,000 visitors annually and offers programs for visitors including living history demonstrations, horseback riding trails, fishing, hiking trails, picnic area, Junior Ranger Program, museum exhibits, special annual events and other activities.
