JOB SUMMARY: The Supervisory Facility Operations Specialist supports an organization of facilities and equipment through the supervision of subordinate staff, multi-year/operational budgets, and the utilization of new information technologies. These duties provide stewardship of assets/facilities ensuring visitor use and enjoyment as well as the protection of natural and cultural resources. MAJOR DUTIES: Actively involved in decisions affecting overall park management policy and operations and exercises full range of supervisory duties. Utilizes Facility Management Software Systems for cost effective management of assets and maintains cost records and prepares annual work budget plans for maintenance operations. Establishes project scope, goals, objectives, deliverables, compliance requirements, and alternatives for maintenance projects. Responsible for implementing a current safety and training program to eliminate at -risk behaviors and environments enforcing regulatory policies and mandates. Initiates actions and serves as the liaison for compliance of environmental/cultural issues related to project proposals and park operations. The Calumet area has a population of approximately 6, 000 people with community amenities including hospital, school and shopping services. The Cities of Houghton and Hancock are located approximately 12 miles south and both are full service communities. Higher education facilities are available at Michigan Technological University in Houghton. Park housing is not available. Housing is available in surrounding communities for both rental and purchase. Summers are mild and daytime temperatures ranging from 70 to 90 degrees, and fishing, boating, camping and hiking are popular recreational activities. Winter temperatures range from highs 25-30 degrees with sub-zero lows. Winter snowfall is abundant, averaging between 150 to 250 inches Year. Winter recreational activities include downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing.
