Intern for proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer membrane electrode assembly (MEA) research and development
Project Summary
The goal of the project is to develop MEAs to improve PEM electrolyzer efficiency, durability and safety.
This work will include:
1) development of novel MEA architecture for next generation dry build stack;
2) validate different MEA component, such as membrane, ionomer and catalyst in an electrolyzer stack;
3) support the whole MEA development team.
4) develop next-gen proton exchange membrane with low hydrogen crossover
This project will help to achieve our 2024 dry build performance and durability goals.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist to investigate current MEA and stack characteristics to improve performance and reliability of existing designs;
- Assist the MEA Material Development Team on qualification of new MEA designs and components;
- Support electrolyzer MEA fabrication, testing and diagnostics at both the single-cell and stack levels;
- Assist to prepare progress, status and forecast reports on multiple key aspects of the assigned area of responsibility;
- Assist to manage MEA lab;
- Flexibility and the ability to meet strict requirements to tight schedules;
- Work professionally and cooperatively in a cross-functional team environment with a focus upon maximizing system performance and customer satisfaction;
- Represent Plug Power in a professional manner in all interactions; support the philosophy of the organization to provide high-performing technology to maximize customer satisfaction;
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education and Qualification
- BS or higher degree in Electrochemistry, Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, or other STEM field of study required;
- Proficiency in the use of MS Excel and Word is required;
- Chemistry or mechanical lab experience is a plus;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Must work effectively within team to meet objectives under time constraints;
- Ability to take direction well and multi-task;
- Detail oriented and highly organized;
- Being able to finish tasks in a timely manner;
- Ability to summarize test result and report to the team regularly;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
