Automotive Worker
This is an Automotive Worker Seasonal Position at Gateway National Recreation Area. The primary purpose of this position is to perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul work on automobiles, trucks, tractors, and other vehicles with similar characteristics including gasoline and diesel engines and other mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, computer-assisted and electronically controlled systems.

Duties
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Replaces solenoids, relays, control modules, water pumps, fuel injectors, spark plugs, brake pads/shoes, wheel bearings/hubs, ball joints, control arms, steering linkages, exhaust components, cooling system components, engine components, belts, hoses, tires, and complete assemblies such as engines, transmissions, transfer cases, transaxles and rearends.
- Services and checks air conditioning systems, including purging and recharging systems, flushing radiators and replacing anti-freeze solutions, and aligning cars and trucks by adjusting caster, camber and toe.
- May assist with, or prepare monthly reports, requisitions for supplies and parts, job reports and vehicle labor and parts forms.
- Responsible for neatness and organization of work area and assigned tools; parts control and inventory, immediate cleanup of any spills or other concerns that may present a hazard to shop personnel or others.

- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Direct Deposit: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- Driver's License: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.
- You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
- You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- Applicants must be at least (1) 18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

- Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading)
- Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.
- Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic)
- Use of Measuring Instruments
Education
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

Non-Competitive Rehire Eligibility: Temporary seasonal employees can only maintain their non-competitive rehire eligibility if they work no more than a combined total of Temporary NTE less than 1040 hours anywhere in the National Park Service (NPS) within their established service year.
