ESS is hiring an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer who will develop, implement, and maintain company policies, procedures, guidelines, and equipment to promote a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant workplace. This role is critical for adhering to local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations. The EHS Engineer will contribute to the design and development of facilities, work areas, and work procedures, providing expert recommendations for continuous improvement in safety, health, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Environmental and Safety Compliance:
- Implement and maintain company policies to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Prepare, maintain, and update environmental, health, and safety policy and procedure manuals.
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations and ensure organizational compliance.
- Industrial Safety and Hygiene:
- Assess, monitor, and control industrial hygiene, including chemical exposure, lighting, noise, heat, radiation, and humidity.
- Identify and mitigate safety risks through facility tours and worker communication.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Draft detailed reports highlighting dangerous procedures, equipment, or risks for management review.
- Develop and implement systems to report, monitor, and correct safety concerns.
- Training and Collaboration:
- Provide training and guidance on safety and environmental best practices through bulletins, documentation, and meetings.
- Collaborate with OSHA representatives, internal safety staff, and regulatory bodies during audits and inspections, ensuring corrective actions are documented and completed.
- Proactive Hazard Management:
- Adopt a proactive approach to hazard prevention and safety, including the development and implementation of loss-control policies and procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of hazard prevention and best practices, equipment, and developments.
- Facility Design and Development:
- Participate in the design and development of work areas and procedures, offering recommendations for improvements aligned with environmental, health, and safety goals.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to identify and address unsafe or potentially hazardous conditions.
- Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering principles and environmental, health, and safety laws.
- In-depth knowledge of company safety policies and OSHA standards.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field required.
- Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is preferred.
